Option 2 Splitting video for VJ worship

Hi All,
I pray that you are well.
I found another way to split the video. In the previous example it was VGA to VGA and Composite (see previous blog post). In this example it is HDMI to Composite to Composite. So again the Composite goes to the church sound system. In this case I use the OREI XD-224 video convertor. I bought mine on Amazon. If I recall it was about $50. You will need a Composite "In" on your monitor. Many older computer monitors will not have this. Also your computer must have an HDMI out. Again older computers may not have this.

You can still uncheck hardware acceleration in the Virtual DJ settings. Then select the "Window" option in the dropdown. Not the video card as this will freeze any PC without a high cost video card. You will know if you paid $1500 for your computer if you have a super high quality video card.

VJ Sunday Morning Worship How To

Recently there was a post on the Christian Electronica Group on Facebook about Djing a worship service.
Thursday I am demoing how to do this to the Student Pastor at my church. I wanted to take this opportunity to share how to do this. You are mixing videos in a program like Virtual DJ rather than mixing audio only.
There a four main considerations. 1. Finding the music. 2. Making the video 3. The technical details at the show. 4. The flow of worship and managing Pastor expectations.
11.       I have been blessed to be the administrator for Creuk Radio. Over the last ten years I have listened to around 5000 Christian Electronica songs. At this point I have about three dozen that I could see being used in a Sunday Morning worship environment (aka a sing-a-long).
Here is the list (separated by BPM):
80 to 90 and 160 to 180
·         An Epic No Less – One Word
·         Soul Survivor – Your’e Beautiful
·         Stellar Kart – Something Holy
·         Switchfoot – Darkest Horses (remix)
·         Youth Alive WA – God of Miracles.
110-120
·         Matt Maher – You’re Grace is Enough
·         The Digital Age – How Great Thou Art
·         The Jellyrox – Dreamweaver
125-140
·         Aaron Keyes – Lavish Your Love
·         Andrae Crouch – All the Way
·         Ben Cantelon – We Will Dance For Your Glory
·         Britt Nicole – Amazing Life
·         Casey Darnell – Coming Alive
·         DJ Doomsday – I Can Only Imagine
·         Dreamlab – Breathe
·         Eleventyseven – Give it Up
·         Michael W. Smith - All I Want (Heavens Avenue Remix)
·         Planetshakers – Good to Me
·         Ryan Stevenson – Yesterday Today Forever
·         Toby Mac – Me Without You
·         We Are Leo- Heartbeats
Odd bpms
·         Hillsong London – Follow the Son
·         Seven Places – Glowing Hearts
Potential Songs
·         Avalon – Undeniably You (Jeff Savage Remix)
·         Men of Standard – Feels like Rain
·         Aaron McLaughlin – Love that Lasts
·         Aaron Shust – Long Live the King
·         Anchor and Braille – Goes Without Saying
·         Andrew Feliciano – Dancing On the Ashes
·         Andrew Feliciano – Son of God
·         Andy Smith – Breathe
·         Ben Cantelon – No One Like You
·         Bluetree – Burn Me Up
·         Brandon Heath – I’m Not Who I Was
·         Charlie Hall – Constant
·         Crumbacher – It Don’t Matter
·         Dikko – In the Night (Radio Edit)
·         Elim Sound – It Is Jesus
·         Melba Moore – There is Power In the Blood
·         Press Play – My Everything
·         Soul Survivor – Saviour
·         Steve Hare – Our God is Here

22.       Make a video the text on the screen to sing-a-long with.
33.       The setup can be tricky. You can use an mid-low price computer (like mine) and use the VGA output. You will need a VGA splitter one will go to an lcd monitor that you will need to carry with you. This is your video monitor (additionally you will need an audio speaker as all DJ’s do).
You can bring up a preview window and make that full screen on the second monitor. I tried to use HDMI because my computer has it. However it uses another video output setting that uses up too much memory and causes the video to freeze. If you want higher quality video output you will need to buy a $1500 computer.
You’ll need to split the audio with external audio card. I have RCA’s going to churches speaker system and headphone jack from external audio card to the speaker (aka DJ audio monitor which in this case is a guitar amp J).
I split the video with the grey box called Averkey iMicro. The yellow video cord out to churches video and the blue vga goes to the Video monitor.
Pictures of my setup are below:

44.       I have categorized the songs in my arsenal to two threads. First: Contemplative and Committing. Second: Challenged, Thankful, Celebratory. That is the songs all are in one of the five categories. I want to move the worshiper through the categories I the order above. I think that challenged is a wild card and doesn’t always need to be used. For me sometimes I disagree with the Pastors ideology so I think a good rule is that not commenting on what they preach and in return they should not comment on what you play.
Total Cost:
Averkey iMicro $100
Behrenger audio card $30
Video Monitor $50
Guitar Amp $100
DJ2Go controller $50
Headphones with mic built in $50
PC $500
With cables and all it should be $1000 or a little less. If you want HDMI video then you need a more powerful PC which would be about $1000 more.

Thanks. God Bless.

Zane One - First Lady of the Tunnel Rats | DaSouth.com

Hi Creuksters,

Here is an interview with Zane One. She is an alternative hip-hop artist.

Here is a quote from the article:
What do you have to say to some who may think there’s a lack of the gospel in your lyrics? What do you have to say to the nay-sayers…who obviously did not just sit in our mini-church services before the interview started (Laughs)
Zane: I would have to say they are right but do I have to say Jesus in every song to be considered a Christian? I really hope folks will understand I am a regular woman, and I am going be honest and speak on what I feel. I don’t do my music just for the gospel market. I do it so the folks who don’t know will see and say dang, she is just like me but there is something different about her.
Thanks. God Bless.

Interview with Empire of the Sun

Empire of the Sun | Keeping the faith

Hi All,

Here is an interesting interview with glam-pop duo Empire of the Sun.

Here is a quote:
"It was like God was really on our side on that first record.''
Unfashionable though it may be in the hedonistic circles of rock'n'roll, Steele has long been a devout Christian, firmly believing that the credit for his tunes should go to a higher power.
''Some of the songs and melodies, y'know, it's not from this world,'' he says. ''It's from God - it's just so obvious, you know?''
His faith has never wavered? ''Yeah, it wavers every day! But it's not like … People go, 'Oh, I don't believe.' But no one has a choice, you know, 'cause everyone was made by God.''
He argues that the design of the human body is too perfect to have been created by anyone other than God. ''So it's real important what we're making here, hey? It's our duty to kind of grab our talents and then push that message.''

Thanks. God bless.

The Columbia Journalist

The Columbia Journalist

Hi All,

Here is a little article on Christian dubstep.

Here is a quote: Most dubstep features a “sub-bass” wobble--usually between 40Hz and 70Hz--that creates a shuddering sensation when played out of standing speakers. Its Christian incarnation couples atmospheric synth melodies and jittery bass loops, usually over a 4/4 beat, with lyrics on faith in God.

Thanks. God Bless.

A review of Martin Smith's new Electronica infused album

Hi All,

Here is a link to a review of Martin Smith's new Electronica infused album. http://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/articles/music/Martin_Smith_Taking_his_place_on_Gods_Great_Dance_Floor_/51143/p1/

Here is a quote:

In the '90s it was club deejay and record producer Scott Blackwell revealing that you could worship God with the turbulent rhythms of house music. And now the one-time frontman for Delirious? has stepped forward to suggest that God wants our worship to be far more than a passive act of hymn singing or even an enjoyment of slick rock pyrotechnics.
'God's Great Dance Floor: Step 01' is much more than simplyMartin Smith's long awaited solo debut since the Littlehampton wonders completed their season. It is more even than the work of one of Christendom's most finely honed talents expanding his musical palate with everything from the blips and beats of club culture to the rollicking folk dance of Mumford's sons.

Thanks. God Bless.

VJ videos on the labs page

Hi All,
There are some VJ videos on the labs page for Sunday morning worship. This is an idea that God gave me when listening to Toby Mac's "Me Without You" one day. I think these videos represent a possible format for Christian Electronica at church on Sunday mornings.
Thanks. God bless.

Aaron's Christian Electronica Vol. 44

Hi Creuksters,

Aaron's Christian Electronica Vol. 44 is now in iTunes at https://c.itunes.apple.com/us/imix/aarons-christian-electronica/id579513545
These are more minimalist songs than some of the other compilations. They are also on the edgy side of many genres such as pop, rock and gospel.

Thanks. God Bless.
